Congressman Hultgren receives “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” from National Taxpayers Union

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren was one of only 66 Members named a “Taxpayers Friend” by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) for his votes this session in support of lower taxes, limited government and economic freedom.

“Only lawmakers with a voting record that is the best-of-the-best will earn NTU’s Taxpayers’ Friend Award,” said Pete Sepp, president of NTU. “Randy has demonstrated a tireless commitment to supporting taxpayers’ interests in Washington and a dedication to solving the government’s tax-and-spend problems with action rather than just words. Fixing America’s budget problems takes hard work, and Randy has been doing that work every single day.”

“It is gratifying to receive this recognition from one of the premier taxpayer watchdog groups for my commitment to reducing the burden on taxpayers and shrinking the size, scope and cost of the federal government,” said Rep. Hultgren, who received an “A” rating from NTU.

NTU included 198 House votes in the 2017 scorecard. NTU’s rating program is designed to calculate a Member’s voting record on fiscal responsibility by evaluating every vote that has an impact on the federal budget through a methodical weighting system.

“Congress must strive to stave off pressure to jeopardize our fiscal future,” said Hultgren. “I remain committed to not spending beyond our means and to maintaining the momentum of the pro-growth policies that have laid the foundation for the strong economic growth we are benefiting from today.”

NTU has recognized U.S. Representatives and Senators since 1979 who annually earn high voting scores to qualify them for the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.” See NTU’s full 2017 congressional scorecard and further analysis here.
