Hultgren, Congressional Republicans Tell Legislative Leaders, Gov. Quinn: "No Bailouts For Illinois"
Geneva, IL – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement after joining other members of Congress from Illinois and across the country in sending a letter to Illinois' legislative leaders and Governor Pat Quinn. In the letter, Hultgren and the members of Congress reminded the leaders that Washington will not bail the state out of its ballooning pension obligations.
“The letter we sent to Illinois' legislative leaders and Governor Quinn urges them to reform the state’s pension system and its $85 billion in unfunded liabilities, and to do so in a responsible manner that does not entangle the federal government,” said Hultgren. “This problem is growing worse by the day and we all want to see it resolved. However, the remedy must come from within the State of Illinois, not from the federal government."
“I urge Governor Quinn and other leaders in Springfield to follow the example we’re setting here in Washington, of cutting spending and making the tough decisions needed to shrink the size of government and restore fiscal responsibility. I also thank Congressman Roskam for his continued leadership on this important issue.”
