Hultgren: Get Government off the Backs of Small Businesses
Campton Hills, IL –U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today hosted a forum with small business owners and local residents to discuss the challenges facing small businesses—including overtaxation, overregulation and a lack of access to capital—and policies and solutions to help them grow. In addition, Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of the Job Creators Network, gave an overview of his organization’s Bring Small Businesses Back (BSBB) campaign, which is working to address the hurdles facing small businesses and identify solutions to overcome them. The forum, “Fighting for Opportunity: Unleashing the Power of Small Business,” took place the McHenry County College Shah Center.

“Today was another opportunity for me to hear from small business owners in my district what challenges they face and how we can do better by them in Washington. Small businesses are critically important to economic stability and growth in this country, and yet these employers are struggling under the weight of crippling taxes, job-killing regulations and a lack of access to capital. Most importantly, though, we talked about ways we can help bring small businesses back—to give freedom and flexibility to employers, provide opportunities for millions of employees, and get the economy going again,” said Rep Hultgren. “I look forward to working with the Job Creators Network and small businesses across the 14th District to educate and engage their communities and their representatives on these issues, and to develop and promote workable solutions to the challenges they face.”
“Rep. Hultgren’s small business forum and recently introduced tax bill are important steps in identifying the problems facing the nation’s small business job creators and proposing solutions to fix them,” said Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of the Job Creators Network. “To get the economy working for everyone again, we need more people like Rep. Hultgren who is committed to bringing small businesses back.”

To address the challenges of overtaxation, overregulation and a lack of access to capital, Rep. Hultgren:
- Introduced H.R. 5374, the Bring Small Businesses Back Tax Reform Act, which provides immediate tax relief and reduces administrative burdens for small businesses.
- Secured House passage of his bill H.R. 2010, the Regulatory Review and Sunset Act, which establishes a process by which federal agencies can “sunset” obsolete, duplicative and conflicting regulations that weigh on American businesses and families.
- Has supported a series of bills to free up capital for businesses, including H.R. 4498, the Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) Act, a bill he cosponsored which frees up capital to support startup business ventures in their early stages, and a number of regulatory relief bills freeing up community banks to lend to small businesses. These include his own bill, H.R. 4500, the Community Bank Reporting Relief Act.
