Hultgren Supports Bill to Protect Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions
Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today announced his support and cosponsorship of H.R. 628, the Guaranteed Health Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2017. The legislation ensures that the health care system in the United States guarantees access to insurance coverage in both the individual and group markets for Americans who have pre-existing health conditions.
“Many residents in Illinois suffer from costly and life-threatening conditions and fear losing insurance if coverage for pre-existing provisions is repealed. Rest assured, as Congress moves forward in its efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a system that offers people in my district more health insurance choices with lower premiums and more affordable deductibles, this bill would cement in law that individuals with pre-existing health conditions and their families maintain access to meaningful, affordable health insurance,” said Rep. Hultgren.
“When it comes to health reform, we need to be forward-thinking, free market-focused and compassionate. I believe we can do a better job of partnering with the private sector and employers to create an innovative, competitive system of insurance and quality care that does not leave those who need help behind. We can’t take a step backwards and return our country to a health insurance market that locks people with health conditions out of reasonably priced insurance.”
